My CASA has always been there for me and my sisters. If I was stressed out about an upcoming court date, school grades, or family problems she would always offer her shoulder or a hug. She was my support and motivation: always cheering me to go on and always bringing out the good in all the situations that were bad and depressing.
When you are in foster care it is really hard to trust somebody, but I always trusted my CASA. She was like a mom I never really had. But she was always correcting my mistakes and teaching me to respect family values. She would also teach me what I wanted to know about anything. She also always told me the truth. She would never “beat around the bush.” She would tell us what was happening up front. My sisters and I really respected that. We were not always happy about situations, but we were informed.
I am now looking at life goals. I really think I want to be a teacher so I can teach children and care for them at the same time. I will strongly consider becoming a CASA volunteer. If I decide it is something I want to do and be good at, I hope I will make a great impact on a child’s life. Just like my CASA did in mine.
